Meet Kristen Sheldon

DNP, APRN, FNP-C

In 2021, I found myself increasingly discouraged by the limitations and barriers within our healthcare system. It has become harder than ever to give patients the time, attention, and education they truly deserve to achieve lasting health and quality of life. Determined to change that, I set out to create a better way forward. Drawing on my doctoral training and research at Johns Hopkins focused on weight management, my mission is to partner with each patient as their advocate for health—identifying the root causes of symptoms and developing solutions that promote real healing, not just temporary relief through medication.

My Story

I was born in Houston and raised in Kingwood, TX, where I fell in love with my community.  I have always known I wanted to work in healthcare, and obtained my Bachelor's in Nursing from Baylor University.  I returned to Houston, where I had incredible opportunities working as a nurse in the Neonatal ICU, Pediatric Oncology at MD Anderson, in clinical research at Baylor Medical School, and at MD Anderson.

I knew I wanted to serve my community on a larger scale, so I earned my Master's of Nursing- Family Nursing Practice from Texas Woman’s University and my Doctor of Nursing Practice from Johns Hopkins University, where I focused my research on obesity management in primary care.  I have been serving my community as a Nurse Practitioner since 2014, working in primary care and aesthetics.  I also have shared my love for teaching, and have been teaching at the Master's level, teaching nurses how to be nurse practitioners, at multiple Universities since 2015.

In 2021, I became quite exhausted with the limitations and hurdles that healthcare is facing today.  It has increasingly become more difficult to provide patients the time and attention that they need to have comprehensive care and education to really improve their health and quality of life.  So, I set out to find a way to fix that.  I want to truly partner with each one of my patients to be their champion for health.  I want to help find the root causes of symptoms and find solutions to improve health, not just masking with medications.

I also faced a pretty major personal challenge in 2021, when I underwent bariatric surgery.  I tried every diet imaginable, tried every medication available, with no lasting or sustainable loss.  I was exhausted, frustrated, and felt horrible.  I was a healthcare provider who couldn’t even get myself healthy. Bariatric surgery was life-changing, and I lost 110 pounds! With my weight loss, I had more energy, slept better, and found freedom in my diet for the first time ever.  My skin glowed, I no longer felt the impacts of my PCOS, and the brain fog was gone.  No matter what your health conditions are, I want to help others achieve this.  I want to give you all of your options and help you find your perfect solutions.

When I am not seeing patients or teaching, I love to spend time with my family, cook, read, travel, and love pilates!
